SEASONS GREETINGS!!!!! |
2007-12-18 |
| MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!! Thanks so much for all your continuing support. The continually excellent comments about the site and level of service keep us eager to remain at the pinnacle of the diecast aviation collectors scene. We go into 2008 with some exciting new diecast models on the way such as the 1/72 scale Corgi Lightning F6 and Gemini Spey engined RAF/Navy Phantom to name but a few. Lower Limited Edition runs will ensure that future releases are not "dumped" on the market as has occurred in the past. "May all your lofts be beautifully insulated with empty model boxes" Cheers!! VULCAN FLIES!! |
2007-10-18 |
| Vulcan XH558 has returned to the skies for the first time in 14 years. She made her maiden test flight following a major overhaul from Bruntingthorpe at around mid day today. More flights will follow in the next few weeks as a 3 mile exclusion zone has been declared around the airfield until 2nd November. WELL DONE TO The Vulcan Operating Company and all its supporters!!! |
|
VULCAN XH558 TO FLY TODAY!!!! |
2007-10-17 |
| Very strong rumours suggest that (if serviceable) Vulcan XH558 will take off from Bruntingthorpe for the first time in over 14 years tomorrow; Thursday the 18th of October!! She has been given clearance by the Civil Aviation Authority for 3 test flights after an amazing story concerning her rebuild following the granting of lottery funds and donations by 20,000 people. Possibly the most amazing spectacle in recent aviation history is really going to happen. Who could ever have imagined that a huge 1950s cold war four engined bomber would be returned to the air in this day and age where we can't even have an airborne Lightning in the UK? BRILLIANT STUFF!!!! Maybe there's hope for a Lightning yet?? | |

BRUNTINGTHORPE LIGHTNING OPEN DAY 22 JULY '07 |
2007-07-11 |
| The Bruntingthorpe Lightning Preservation Group have announced that they will hold an open day on Sunday 22nd July. They currently have 2 Lightning F6s (XR728 and XS904) in practically airworthy, fast taxi condition. On the day you will hopefully be able to see one or both aircraft in full reheat scooting down the runway with nosewheels off the ground; the nearest thing to seeing a Lightning airborne anywhere in the UK. This is a truly unique experience and the entry fee of only £12.00 per adult (£6.00 per child/OAP)is a true bargain. Part of this fee will go towards the rebuilding of the ex-RAF Wattisham QRA shed, which is 60% complete and will provide the Lightnings with a dry home and keep them running for many years to come. A £50 donation towards the rebuild will place your name permanently on a roll of honour within the shed. In addition to the Lightnings it is likely that other retired RAF jets will perform taxi runs on the day, plus there will be remote controlled model flying displays including a 1/7th scale Lightning. I will be there selling my 29 Sqn Lightnings and other Corgi jets, giving a donation to the QRA shed appeal with every Aviation Archive sale. Anyone wishing to pre-order models please contact me beforehand as my car space is very limited so I can't take a huge variety (Please note: I cannot accept credit cards). If you love Lightnings and want to see them almost fly PLEASE come and support this wonderful project. Every pound helps towards the rebuild project Gates open at 10.30 on Sunday the 22nd of July. LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL THERE!!! Your Planecrazy Lightning Nutter, Chris | |

BRUNTINGTHORPE OPEN DAY 27TH MAY |
2007-05-04 |
| Bruntingthorpe aviation museum have announced that they will be holding another event on Sunday 27th May. It is a truly unique experience; spectators can watch cold war jets such as the Victor, Comet, Buccaneer, Hunter Jet Provost and the wonderful Lightning scorch down the runway on fast taxi runs, much closer to the public line than at a normal air display. Anyone who has not yet been to watch are really missing a treat; if you haven't seen or heard a Lightning in full reheat you haven't lived!! In addition Vulcan XH558 is expected to be on static display, so the public can see her before she is due to return to the skies within the month! Planecrazy will be having a stall on the day, where we will have our exclusive Lightning model on sale, together with many other diecast aircraft models including ones suitable for children. Please bear in mind that space will be at a premium so if you want to pre-order anything it would be preferable to contact me by email or phone beforehand. Please also note I do not accept any credit cards. Entry cost is only £10 per adult and kids are free, gates open at 10.00 am. Hope to see you there. | |

SUPERB HOBBYMASTER STARFIGHTER |
2006-11-07 |
| I have just obtained stock of the first Hobbymaster 1/72 Starfighter and have to report that it is absolutely fantastic! It depicts an F-104C "Really George", flown by Col George Laven Jr of the 479th TFW, USAF based at George AFB, California in 1963. Finished in natural metal with lovely multicoloured unit markings, this is THE Starfighter model to have in your collection. CORGI ANNOUNCE 2007 MODEL RELEASES |
2006-10-22 |
| The Corgi 2007 Catalogue is now out, complete with some very nice surprises for the Aviation collector. In addition to expected releases such as the 1/144 scale VC-10 and 1/72 Lysander, P-38 Lightning, 2 Typhoons (WW2 and Eurofighter), Halifax, Catalina and JU88 there is now to be a P-51B Mustang, Vampire, MIG 29, A-10 and Wessex. As if that isn't enough the Canberra tooling has been modded to include the single cockpit B(I)8 variant and the 1/144 Hercules has been altered to a C-130J. A Falklands theme to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the war will include a Harrier/ Sea Harrier twinset on a simulated carrier ski ramp. Pause for breath here because the good news continues: Co-operation with manufacturer Hobbymaster means that their excellent Stuka, Dauntless, Avenger, Hellcat, MIG 21 and Starfighter will be offered each in 3 different liveries as Corgi products (none clashing with Hobbymaster colour schemes)and known as the Predator range. The Connoisseur range is also introduced with several models in very limited quantities of only 150 each in oak display cases. Finally another shocker is that several WW1 biplanes are to be released in 1/48 scale, initially the Albatross, SE5a and Spad. PARTY TIME!!! |

BRUNTINGTHORPE BRILLIANCE |
2006-07-21 |
| The Bruntingthorpe Lightning Preservation Group (LPG) open day was a spectacular success. Record attendances watched the 2 Lightnings do a total of 4 runs, in addition to performances by Hunter, Canberra, Jet Provost and Iskra jets, superb flying model displays and many other attractions. It's simply a unique experience which brings back such fond memories to anyone (like myself) who remember the Lightning with such affection. I had the immense pleasure to talk at some length to Jimmy Dell, John Spencer and Dennis Brooks about the aircraft. Thanks to them and my many fellow Lightning enthusiasts who made the day so special for me. The LPGs intention is to hopefully have the Lightnings under the cover of their newly re-erected QRA shed before the winter. Next Bruntingthorpe open day is Sunday August 27th, which will include more stunning Lightning runs and hopefully also Victor and Comet runs too. | |
BRUNTINGTHORPE LIGHTNING OPEN DAY - SAT 8th JULY |

They currently have 2 Lightning F6s (XR728 and XS904) in practically airworthy, fast taxi condition. On the day you will hopefully be able to see both aircraft in full reheat scooting down the runway with nosewheels off the ground; the nearest thing to seeing a Lightning airborne anywhere in the UK. This is a truly unique experience and the entry fee of only £12.00 is a true bargain. Part of this fee will go towards the rebuilding of the ex-RAF Wattisham QRA shed, which will provide the Lightnings with a dry home and keep them running for many years to come. In addition to the Lightnings it is likely that several other retired RAF jets will perform fast taxi runs on the day, plus there will be remote controlled model flying displays including a 1/7th scale Lightning. 2006-06-14 |
| Corgi are recalling all 2006 of the 50th Anniversary Messerschmitt Bf109E Hans Von Hahn models. The problem is that the undercarriages have been attached to the model back to front. As such they are all being recalled and replaced like for like. The original year 2000 AA49201 version of this model is still available on my site at the bargain price of £30.00 plus postage. Unlike the 2006 version these models have optional undercarriage positions and a stand. Get one while you still can! | |

Please allow me to take this opportunity to thank all my customers for their continuing loyalty. It is you who have made all this possible and allowed me to be able to commission my Lightning model; something that would have been impossible to contemplate when I started the business. The mass of praiseworthy comments about the site have taken my breath away and give me the incentive to keep Plane Crazy at the pinnacle of the diecast model collectors world. Chris | |

| If you care to take a look on the Lightning info page you will find there are 3 pages of luvverly Lightning pics to peruse. Hope you like them. 2006-01-03 |

THE ONLY CORGI SILVER FINNED LIGHTNING! |
2005-12-27 |
| Just been pointed out to me by an eagle eyed customer (Thanks Mike!); The Plane Crazy 29 Sqn Lightning will be the only one thus far produced by Corgi to have a silver fin and rudder. All the others are either camouflaged or painted a different colour to the rest of the plane. | |
PLANE CRAZY LIGHTNING MODEL OFFICIALLY UNIQUE! |
2005-12-18 |
| The Plane Crazy exclusive 29 Squadron Lightning model is officially unique; the only Aviation Archive model ever to be given a CP prefix! Corgi have confirmed that as the initial order was wrongly directed via a Corgi Premiums (CP) channel (and it is now too late to change it) the official number will be CP32309 | |
500 UP! |
2005-12-15 |
| A slightly momentous occasion I think: 500 items listed on the site! Actually not quite just yet as some are duplicated and the others (as indicated) are out of stock. However it's amazing when the original intention was only to have approx 200 items listed. The site is tightly managed and kept right up to date so that (unlike some other sites) if an item is listed as being in stock then it really is still available. | |
WEBSITE UPDATED |
