B-25J Mitchell 429600 "Bats Outa Hell" of the 499th Bomb Squadron, 345th Bomb Group USAAF in 1945. The nickname is due to the distinctive blue nose of the squadron aircraft, adapted to house up to 12 forward-firing fifty calibre machine guns. The B-25 first gained fame as the bomber used in the 18 April 1942 Doolittle Raid, in which sixteen B-25Bs led by the legendary Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle, attacked mainland Japan four months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Mint and boxed limited edition of 1,420 from 2005. Has to be seen to be appreciated with rotating gun turret, opening bomb doors, optional rear ladder, steps, undercarriage positions and stand. Now very hard to find. Please note this model; has been de-certificated by Corgi and the box sides annotated with a sticker to denote this. |
